The AI Act, chapter by chapter
Regulation (EU) 2024/1689 governs artificial intelligence systems and models placed on the market or used in the European Union according to the risk they pose: it bans a handful of practices, subjects high-risk uses to strict requirements and demands transparency when AI interacts with people and in synthetic content. It has been in force since 1 August 2024 and applies in stages.
Regulation (EU) 2026/1744, known as the Digital Omnibus on AI, amended the text in July 2026: it postponed the high-risk obligations to 2 December 2027 (Annex III) and 2 August 2028 (Annex I), added two prohibitions and softened the AI literacy duty. This path uses the consolidated version that results from both and cites the article at each point.
